ABOUT NEW ZEALAND BUSINESS INVESTOR WORK VISA
What This Visa Allows You to Do
- Invest NZD $1 million or $2 million in an established NZ business
- Actively manage and operate the business
- Bring your spouse/partner and dependent children
- Progress to New Zealand Residence through the Business Investor Resident Visa pathway
- Stay and work in NZ for up to 4 years during the process of qualifying for New Zealand Residence
INVESTMENT OPTIONS
1. Standard Pathway – NZD $1,000,000 Investment
- Invest at least NZD $1 million in an eligible business
- Work to Residence pathway over 3 years
- Must demonstrate active business involvement
2. Fast-Track Pathway – NZD $2,000,000 Investment
- Minimum NZD $2 million investment
- Eligibility to apply for Residence after 12 months (subject to business performance and conditions)
- Must meet multi-year business operation requirements
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for the New Zealand Business Investor Work Visa, applicants must meet INZ’s core criteria:
- Minimum investment of NZD $1–2 million
- At least NZD $500,000 in personal reserve funds
- Proven business experience, such as:
- owning a business with 5+ full-time employees, or
- generating NZD $1 million annual revenue
- Actively involved in the business operations
- Age 55 or younger
- Meet INZ health, English language, and character standards
- Business must be operating for at least 5 years
- Must select an acceptable business type (INZ prohibits certain business types)
BUSINESSES NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THIS VISA
Immigration New Zealand excludes certain business types, including:
- Convenience stores / dairies
- Discount stores or value stores, such as NZD $2 shops
- Fast-food outlets
- Drop-shipping or online-only retail
- Gambling-related businesses
- Tobacco or vape-related industries
- Adult entertainment
- Home-based businesses
- Franchises
- Immigration services
- Labour hire companies
