“Drivers moving between Ontario and New Zealand can now exchange their valid driver’s licences upon relocation without having to take a written or road test, making it easier for new residents to get to work, school or appointments. Thanks to a new reciprocal driver’s license agreement between Ontario and New Zealand, people moving between these jurisdictions can now exchange their Ontario Class G and New Zealand Class 1 licences for passenger vehicles. Drivers will still need to meet required medical and vision standards.”

New Zealand’s Working Holiday Visa (WHV) duration for Canadian citizens extended to 23 months!

Working Holiday Visa (WHV) for Canadian citizens aged between 18 and 35 years can now be issued for up to 23 months (as of 1 April 2015). Previous maximum of WHV for Canadian citizens was 12 months.

“Immigration Minister Michael Woodhouse says that “there is no doubt in my mind that the rebuild is going to require a significant number of migrant labourers,” and predicts that as many as 17,000 of the 35,000 workers needed in the rebuild may come from overseas. Christchurch currently has a workforce of 20,000. Woodhouse believes the city will become “a pretty cosmopolitan place probably for the next 15 years.” “

“Kiwi music lovers could be in for more big name international acts under new visa laws due to come into force in November, a tourism body says. The Tourism Industry Association says the new visa rules for top performers and their support crews will also boost the economy. The change in regulations would allow top acts to travel and perform in New Zealand on visitor visas instead of work visas, provided they were promoted by a New Zealand company – meaning more top acts would be attracted to our shores, the association said.”

“New Zealand’s annual net migration rose to a record in September, beating government forecasts, as the inflow was spurred by student arrivals from India and Kiwis returning home from Australia. The country gained a net 45,400 migrants in the year ended September 30, the biggest ever gain, according to Statistics New Zealand. Annual arrivals rose to 105,500, a record for a September year, while departures fell 21 per cent from the previous year to 60,100. Meanwhile, the net loss of 6000 people to Australia was down from 25,300 for the same period a year earlier.”
